Wongy...

Well I decided the fail list was unavoidable in the end. aaaand semi-regained the will to blog.

hence:

maths last week Eddy makes an inquiry...

"Wongy, do you like Blessthefall"
"No."
"...Why not??"
"They're christian-_-"

Well wongy, are you really going to not like a band purely because of their beliefs??

Then I remembered reading something rather curious a while back.

*Digs out 'Brand New Eyes-Paramore' booklet*

"Hayley would like to thank: "Therefore I am well content with weakness, with insults, with distress, with persecutions, with difficulties for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong." Corinthians 10:12. Thank you God for being everywhere and in everything." ...

"Josh would like to thank: My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May you be glorified through this new record." ...

"Zac would like to thank: I would like to personally thank... Jesus my Savior" ...

"Jeremy would like to thank: Thanks to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" ...

"Taylor would like to thank: My Heavenly Father,You are so faithful when I am not. Praise you, Jesus, for your loving grace!" ...

Well... the evidence speaks for itself.

Anyone agree?? :P

  1. Ahaha, I thought this is what you'd discovered as possible "ammo" against me.

They're not classified as "Christian Rock" or "Christian Pop" or anything. PLUS I actually like their music. Shinoda is a Protestant (supposedly) but I still admire his music.

    NICE TRY :D

  3. But you said, and I quote, " I hate all Christians".

This means you hate every member of Paramore.

How incredibly ironic and distasteful if you then committed a delightful hypocrisy and abandoned your fellow Christian hating brothers by subjecting yourself to music which clearly must reflect Christian ideological structure and reasoning.

As you may have learnt (I'm not familiar with the English 3A Syllabus), the personal context of the writers of texts, and the context in which texts are produced, impact what those texts reflect and how they are consumed.

With this in mind one can see how Christianity must be inextricably linked to Paramore's music (However explicit or implicit this is shown). Now, an argument against this, indeed any attempt to gainsay this fact, could perhaps be seen as quite unlearned and pointless.

As Josh says, "My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May you be glorified through this new record.".
They aim to represent and even, "Glorify" God. And as a binary product of this - represent and glorify Christianity.
(It is debatable whether this glorification of Christianity is presented wittingly or unwittingly).

The mere fact they they aren't stuck in the genre of, "Christian Music" of any type does not disprove this purely natural contextual occurrence. One may even go as far as saying that perhaps many Paramore songs are written with the intention of later being edited or revised so as to not become overtly Christian. In order to avoid the common societal stigma attached with Christianity in today's modern world. (Which you Matthew are a prime example of)

The fact that you "Actually like" their music should be your arguing point for discussions like these. You surely cannot dislike Blessthefall or indeed any other Christian band purely based on religious beliefs. Considering you like Paramore, even though every member is clearly of Christian faith.

Therefore one can draw several conclusions. Is it that you don't like Blessthefall because it's common knowledge that they're a Christian band ? Do you like Paramore despite their Christianity because this fact is generally unknown ?

Perhaps you did not think about your personal context before you fell in love with Paramore and, more importantly, their music. Knew too little about their beliefs but now that they have become popular decide to instead ignore them.

Maybe if you decided to give Blessthefall a chance, you would fall in love with their music too, and therefore be able to repeat history and ignore their beliefs as-well. Separate them from the rest of the Christian society as somehow different because you like their music.

And if this doesn't work out, you can say instead that it was more of a disliking of their actual music which leads you to not like to them as a band. Rather than blanket them as people you hate because of your personal ideology (Even though you ironically make explicit exceptions to this).
